Varieties of peppers Star of the East: Mandarin, Gignt, White in Red, Red, Yellow, Chocolate

Sweet pepper is not an absolutely accessible crop for growing in most regions of Russia due to its thermophilicity and at the same time long periods of vegetation. And what to do if many varieties, even with large sizes, are not yet of the most expressive taste, and sometimes even bitter? Probably try to choose a variety of Bulgarian pepper, which will combine a lot of useful characteristics, but, above all, excellent taste.

Pepper East Star is unique not only for its taste characteristics, but also because it is a whole series of peppers of various shades. Despite some difference in size, shape and, most importantly, in color shades, all varieties of pepper Oriental Star is distinguished by excellent sweet taste and juiciness, which are comparable to the best southern varieties, and which confirm the numerous reviews of gardeners. Of course, in the open ground of the regions with a cool and short summer, to grow a decent crop of these peppers is unlikely. But, if you have any greenhouse or greenhouse, you can surprise your household and guests with a rare combination of beauty, taste, juiciness and, of course, utility, which distinguishes all vegetables grown on their own plot. Well, in the south, your pepper beds will have the opportunity to sparkle with real fireworks of colors and, with a reasonable landing, they can look even more picturesque than any flower bed. And your spins for the winter will not only be healthy and tasty, but also beautiful.

Variety description

In fact, all the sweet peppers in the Star of the East series are hybrids. This must be remembered in order not to be disappointed after sowing seeds collected from grown pepper fruits.

Attention! That is, in order to grow pepper seeds next year, you must buy them again from the manufacturer or in stores.

The series includes the following varieties:

  • Star of the East f1;
  • Red;
  • White;
  • Golden;
  • Mandarin;
  • Orange;
  • Yellow;
  • Giant;
  • Giant red;
  • Giant yellow;
  • Purple;
  • Chocolate.

These hybrids of sweet pepper were bred by experts of the well-known seed company Sedek, which is located in the Moscow region. Such a romantic name sweet peppers of this series have also received by chance - in cross section, any of the fruits resemble a star.

Not all representatives of the Star of the East series have been entered into the State Register of Russia. Only 7 hybrids have been honored with this honor - Star of the East: ordinary, White, Golden, Red, Tangerine, Violet and Chocolate. This happened more than 10 years ago in 2006-2007.

The above-mentioned hybrids of sweet pepper East Star are distinguished not only by the color of the fruit, but also by other characteristics. The vast majority of the varieties of pepper in this series can be attributed to early ripe hybrids - this means that, on average, 105-115 days pass from the emergence of seedlings to fruit ripening at the stage of technical maturity. At a later date (120-130 days), only all three giant varieties and the Chocolate Star of the East ripen.

As already mentioned, all varieties are intended both for cultivation in the open field and under shelters.

Tip! Still, in the climatic zones north of Voronezh and beyond the Urals, it is preferable to grow them at least under film shelters, otherwise the yield may disappoint you, and the ripening time will stretch.

Pepper bushes are usually quite powerful, semi-sprawling, medium in height (60-80 cm). The leaves are large, green, slightly wrinkled. In recent years, several unusual hybrids from this series have appeared - the Orange and Yellow Star of the East, which belong to the indeterminate species. That is, without formation, they can grow to a meter or more. And when grown in conditions of winter heated greenhouses and forming into two stems, they can grow to a height of two meters and provide yield per season up to 18-24 kg of pepper fruit from one square meter of planting.

And for ordinary hybrids grown during one summer season, the yield varies from 5.8 to 11 kg of fruit per square meter, depending on the specific variety.

Hybrids are resistant to tobacco mosaic virus and verticillary wilt. They ripen well in room conditions, being collected at the stage of technical maturity. The fruits are well and durablely stored and are quite suitable for long-term transportation, which makes it profitable to grow these peppers in farms.

Star Varieties of the East

Pepper Star of the East in its traditional version has a rich dark red color of the fruit. But it is interesting that in the stage of technical maturity the cubic fruits of pepper have a milky-cream color, as they mature become creamy-reddish, and finally, in the stage of full biological maturation, they turn dark red.

Comment! Thus, on one bush, you can simultaneously observe peppers of almost three different shades, and all of them are already completely edible and can be used for various culinary purposes.

After all, the stage of biological aging is necessary only for the full ripening of seeds, so that they can germinate well in the next season. But,

  • first, the seeds can ripen well in peppers placed on ripening in room conditions.
  • secondly, in any case it does not make sense to plant seeds from grown hybrids next year, since they will not repeat the properties of their parents. Therefore, waiting for biological maturation does not make sense.

And all the peppers of this series are distinguished by an amazing and changeable color both at the stage of technical and biological ripening.

This hybrid does not have the highest yields (about 6-7 kg / sq. Meter on average), but its fruits ripen relatively early and look very exotic. In the dark purple color, they are painted in the stage of technical maturation, but in the stage of full maturity, they become dark cherry. The walls of the peppers are average in thickness - 7 mm, prism-shaped fruits, weighing from 180 to 300 grams.

Pepper Chocolate star of the east is not in vain mid-ripening ripening. Like many later varieties, it has a high yield - up to 10 kg / sq. meters and rather large sizes of fruits - 270-350 grams. The color of the fruit for the peppers is also unique, but chocolate lovers will be disappointed - at the stage of full ripening, the peppers are not completely chocolate, but rather dark-red-brown. And during the period of technical maturity the color of the fruit is dark green. In addition to excellent taste, this hybrid has a peppery flavor.

This hybrid has no particularly outstanding characteristics, except for the ripening of fruits. His average yield is about 7.5 kg / sq. meter The size of the fruit is also average - about 175-200 grams with a wall thickness of about 5-7 mm. Dark green elastic juicy fruits turn bright yellow when fully ripe.

Pepper White Star of the East becomes milky white only during the technical ripening period. If you still leave it to ripen on the bush, then soon the fruit will turn dark yellow. By the way, in this sense, it is not much different from the white pepper hybrid in the yellow star of the east.

Only the yield of the White Star is somewhat higher (up to 8 kg / sq. Meter) and the wall thickness reaches 10 mm.

Comment! But White in the yellow star of the East has a more refined pepper flavor.

White in red

And in this variety, the Stars of the East, the fruits of a cuboid shape, after a period of white coloring, gradually turn red. Productivity, wall thickness and size of fruits are on average.

This hybrid differs from the traditional prism-like shape of the fruit, as well as the fact that at the stage of technical maturity the fruits are colored dark green. For pepper, the Red Star of the East is also characterized by a weak, but peculiar pepper flavor.

One of the most interesting varieties of this series of peppers. Productivity can reach 8-9 kg / sq. meter The fruits themselves, too, can not be called small, they reach a mass of 250-290 grams. After going through a dark green hue, when fully ripe, the peppers become a deep dark orange. Fruits are notable for their particular juiciness with a wall thickness of 8-10 mm and a rich pepper flavor.

Yellow and Orange varieties of pepper Star of the East differ only in color in the stage of biological maturation, which coincides with the name of the variety. In the technical period of maturity, they are distinguished by a dark green color. Both hybrids are early ripe and are distinguished by unlimited growth. On each bush can simultaneously ripen to 15-20 fruits, weighing an average of 160-180 grams. Although the mass of the largest Perchin can reach 250 grams. These hybrids are most profitable to grow in heated greenhouses.

Attention! Under these conditions, they are characterized by very long fruiting, and from one bush it is possible to gather up to 25 kg of fruits of pepper per year.

Among the Star of the East peppers, there are three varieties with medium ripening periods and fairly large fruits, weighing up to 400 grams - Giant, Giant Red and Giant Yellow. Moreover, the first two hybrids are practically no different. In the latter species, as is easy to guess, fully matured fruits are colored bright yellow. In the period of technical maturity, the fruits of all three hybrids have a dark green color. Bushes grow quite tall, up to one meter. And although the size of the peppers is quite significant, these hybrids do not differ in special yields. On one bush on average from 7 to 10 fruits.

Galina, 47, Moscow Region. Last year she grew yellow, orange and white varieties of pepper Star of the East, and this year she decided to try to grow giants. I bought seeds of a giant red star and planted seedlings on warm ridges in greenhouses. In general, I am satisfied with the result, the peppers have grown really large and beautiful, and, most importantly, tasty. Here are just the yield could be more. But, as they say, you don’t need to look for the best from the good. Igor, 46 years old, Orel He read positive reviews on the Internet about pepper hybrids, Star of the East, and decided to try some varieties. Found white, yellow and red. Most of all I liked the white star of the east. These peppers ripened before all, had the thickest walls and rather large sizes of fruits. Of course, white peppers were only in the technical stage, but I grew them in the open field, and they simply did not have time to turn yellow. And other hybrids, in general, apparently, did not have enough heat, and their yield was not up to par — literally several peppercorns ripened on each bush. Viktoria, 43, Smolensk grow. The chocolate star of the east attracted me from the very beginning with its non-standard coloring. True, I can not say that the peppers were really chocolate in color - no, rather, very dark red. I also liked the white and ordinary star of the east from this series. They can be observed in the process of maturation unusual transitions from one color to another. Well, and most importantly, all these peppers have a fantastic taste. Not a single bitterness impurity, very sweet and juicy. Best of all they are fresh. Alevtina, 37 years old, Nizhny Tagil This variety of pepper was acquired by chance. And although we live in the northern region, I have a greenhouse, where I try to grow sweet peppers every summer. I was basically happy with the harvest, until I tried last year to grow the Star of the East Tangerine. Me and my whole family really liked these peppers. They were so tasty and juicy that few people believed that I raised them myself. Almost everything was eaten fresh, almost nothing was left for freezing and preservation. Some of the fruits had to be picked green from the bush - they ripened at home and were almost as tasty as on the bushes. So the name of its pepper is fully justified.

Peppers of the Star of the East series could be called ideal. Only due to a rather high growth and an abundance of fruits of relatively large sizes, they need an obligatory garter. Perhaps, this would be the only drawback of this pepper series, if not for the gardeners' too frequent complaints about the poor germination of seeds of this series in recent years.
