Arosa Potatoes


Each vegetable grower wants to grow potatoes in his plot, which ripens very early. Arosa makes it possible to enjoy a young root vegetable in June. The variety is valued for its high yield, drought resistance and unpretentiousness. This is especially important for busy summer residents, who, due to circumstances, cannot provide the plant with proper care.

History of origin

The potato variety Arosa got its start in Germany. German breeders bred him in 2009. The originator of the new species is the company Uniplanta Saatzucht KG. In 2000, the variety was officially included in the state register of Russia. Potatoes were actively imported into the country, sold and propagated.

Arosa is suitable for cultivation in the Ural, Caucasus, Middle Volga regions of the Russian Federation and in Siberia. German potatoes are also popular in Ukraine and Moldova.


Arosa potato is a versatile, early ripe variety, which is characterized by high yield. From the emergence of seedlings to harvest, an average of 70-75 days pass. The first digging can be done 55-60 days after planting.

Compact potato bush, medium size, with semi-upright stems. The plant is covered with green leaves of small size. Inflorescences lilac, with a reddish tinge. Shoots uniform.

Arosa tubers have a rounded, slightly elongated shape. The peel is dark pink with a reddish tinge. The surface is smooth, sometimes there is a slight roughness. On the surface of the potato are small eyes. The flesh is dark yellow, boiling crumbles. Potatoes have excellent taste and product quality.

Tuber weight ranges from 70 to 135 grams. On the bush, on average, get 15 potatoes. With proper care from one hectare of planting can be collected 50-70 tons of crop. The root contains about 12-15% starch. This variety is great for making chips and french fries.

Advantages and disadvantages

Arosa has many positive characteristics:

The disadvantages of potatoes of this variety are much less than the advantages. Arosa may be affected by rhizoctoniosis, silver scab, and late blight. Therefore, before sowing it is necessary to carry out the dressing of planting material. Also bushes can attack the Colorado potato beetle.

Attention! The variety is susceptible to mineral fertilizers, so it is important not to exceed the recommended dosage of dressings.


Arosa is usually planted in May. The earth should warm up to + 9-10 degrees. For planting choose a sunny plot with a flat surface. The best potato precursors are legumes, cabbage, onions, cucumbers and winter rye. This variety is unpretentious, so it can be grown on any soil.

Since autumn, the following organic and mineral fertilizers are applied to the selected site (per 1 m2):

  • superphosphate - 1 tbsp. l .;
  • potassium sulfate - 1 tsp;
  • ash - 1 cup;
  • humus or compost - 1 bucket.

If the soil is clay, it adds river sand. Fertilizers are scattered evenly over the surface of the site and they dig up the earth to a depth of 20-25 cm. In spring, the soil is harrowed again, leveled with a rake and the weeds are removed. The procedure fills the soil with oxygen.

Two weeks before planting, the root crop is taken from the cellar. Tubers are sorted, damaged, and diseased are discarded. The mass of seed potatoes should be within 60-75 grams. The more eyes on it, the better. For germination, the tubers are cleaned in a bright room, the air temperature in which is maintained at a level of from +12 to +15 degrees. When the sprouts stretch to 3-4 cm - potatoes are planted.

For the prevention of diseases, before planting, Arosa tubers are sprayed with Fitosporin, Alirin or blue vitriol solution. To increase the yield and accelerate the maturation of potatoes, it is treated with growth regulators. One of the most effective stimulants is Agat 25-K and Cherkaz.

In order for the harvest to be of high quality, each bush must have a sufficient supply area. Arosa tubers are planted to a depth of 8-10 cm with an interval of 35-40 cm. Between the rows, at least 70-75 cm of free space is left. According to the landing scheme, dig holes or trenches. Potatoes are sprouted up and sprinkled with soil 5-6 cm.

It is easy to care for potatoes of this variety. It is necessary to regularly clean the area from weeds, as well as loosen, irrigate and fertilize the soil. The maturity of the crop and the volume of the crop depend on the quality of care.

Watering and loosening

For the entire growing season, it is recommended to water the Arosa at least three times. The first irrigation is carried out a month after planting, the second - during the formation of buds, the third - after flowering. In hot and dry weather, the plant is watered more often. Each potato bush should get at least 3 liters of warm water. Moistening of the area is carried out in the evening or before sunrise.

To saturate the soil with oxygen and preserve moisture, the soil is regularly loosened. The procedure is carried out after watering, when the soil dries out a little. Loosening helps get rid of weeds.

Attention! Arosa potatoes tolerate heat even without additional irrigation.


Hilling is a process of filling the bottom of a bush with wet soil. After the procedure, the roots of potatoes begin to grow and branch intensively; therefore, more tubers are formed.

Over the entire growing season, Arosa potato varieties are spud 3 times:

  1. When the height of the shoots will reach 8-10 cm. If frost is expected, then the plant should be completely covered with earth.
  2. During the formation of buds.
  3. During flowering. The height of the ridge should be about 18-20 cm.

If the bushes are pulled out and fall apart - it is recommended to conduct an unscheduled hilling. The procedure is carried out carefully so as not to damage the tubers.

Important! If there is no rain, and the potatoes need hilling, the soil should be moistened.

Top dressing

Top dressing of potatoes of this grade is carried out in several stages. It is important to strictly observe the proportions, as an excess of fertilizer can destroy the plant.

During the formation and growth of tubers (during budding and flowering) mineral and complex supplements with a high content of potassium and phosphorus are introduced into the soil. To prepare the nutrient composition, you need to mix 15 g of potassium sulfate and 15 g of superphosphate. The mixture is dissolved in 10 liters of water and watered planting potatoes. Consumption - 1 liter of solution per 1 m2.

20 days before the digging of tubers, the Arosa bushes are watered with complex mineral-organic fertilizer. To do this, 0.25 liters of manure and 20 g of superphosphate dissolved in a bucket of water. Thanks to this feeding root crops will receive a supply of nutrients necessary for long-term storage.

Diseases and pests

Arosa is characterized by high resistance to mosaic, nematode, Alternaria, Fusarium, potato cancer and viral infections. This potato variety is susceptible to infection with rhizoctoniosis, silver scab, late blight of tops and tubers.

Brown brown spots are formed on the leaves, then a gray patina appears. The bush begins to dry out.

Spraying Kvazat, Ridomil or Acrobat. At the first signs of illness, potatoes can be treated with Fitosporin.

Silver scab

Tubers show brown spots, which eventually become silver. The peel dries and shrinks.

After harvesting the potatoes are sprayed with Maxim agrochemical. And before planting, they treat with Celeste Top or Quadris.

Rhizoctoniosis (black scab)

Dark spots appear on the tubers, like bits of dirt. During storage, they rot. On sprouts and roots spots and ulcers of brown color are formed.

Seed potatoes are sprayed with Maxim's agrochemical, and before planting, they are etched with Tekto, TMTD or Titusim.

For the prevention of diseases, crop rotation must be observed, planting healthy seed and timely harvesting.

Of the pests Arosa can attack the Colorado potato beetle and Medvedka. Get rid of them with the help of drugs such as Bicola, Faskorda and Kinmiks.

Important! After harvesting, the tops of infected potatoes should be burned.


The peculiarity of this variety is that 15 days prior to the harvest, they harvest the tops of potatoes. Due to this, the probability of plant infection with late blight is reduced. At the same time, stop watering.

For eating, potatoes can be digged up in the last days of June - early July, when the plant will bloom. Harvesting is completed at the end of July. Tubers are carefully dried, sorted and laid out in boxes with small holes. Root vegetables are stored at a temperature of +2 to +4 degrees.
