Potato varieties "Luck" fully justifies its name. Among the domestic potato varieties it is one of the best. Many gardeners, experimenting with other varieties, opt for it. Purchasing demand for the Luck potato variety remains consistently high. What are the main characteristics of the variety, what is the secret of its success, popularity and “luck”?

Inference history

Potatoes varieties "Good luck" in the 90s of the last century. The basis of the variety was potatoes "Vilnia" and "Anoka". Breeders set a goal - to create an unpretentious potato variety, which gives good yields in different climatic zones with different soils. As practice has shown, agronomists coped with their task as “excellent”.

Newly baked potato "Luck" has proven itself in various regions: from the North-Western regions of Russia to the Black Soil Region, from the Volga region to the Far East. Its main feature is high adaptability. The yield per hectare is 40-45 tons even in hot and arid summer.

Description and characteristics

The plant is characterized by powerful 40 centimeter bushes with thick leaves. The shape of the sheet with a characteristic cut, the color is bright green. The variety does not bloom long, but it is abundant. Inflorescences collected in small tassels. Flowers of snow-white color, with sepals bent downwards.

Potato tubers are round and oval, with a small number of eyes. The color of tubers varies from yellowish cream to brownish. The tubers of this variety are characterized by thin and smooth skin, therefore there are very few cleanings when cooking. In its raw form, the flesh of the potato is white, and when it boils it slightly yellows. This is especially noticeable if during the cultivation of a plant mineral fertilizers were used: potash and chloride.

Characteristics of potato "Luck" as follows:

  • The growing season is from 80 to 90 days;
  • Weight of 1 tuber on average 150 g;
  • The number of tubers on one plant is 10-15;
  • The percentage of starch - 12-14%;
  • Productivity from 1 hectare (on average) - 42 tons;
  • Productivity from 1 bush - 1.7 kg;
  • The percentage of marketable products - 88-97;
  • Tastes are great.

The weather and agricultural technology affect the yield of potatoes "Luck", and the soil type does not have a particular impact on the crop.

Benefits

The advantages of a variety that distinguishes it from other breeding products are as follows:

  • Immunity to low temperatures. For active germination of tubers enough air temperature at plus 10 degrees. Potato sprouts are excellent in cloudy and moderately cool weather. The deadline for the central regions is the end of April. Towards the north, potatoes are planted in mid-May.
  • Quick tying tubers. Approximately 1.5 months after the emergence of seedlings, the new potatoes are quite suitable for human consumption. The mass of tubers varies from 60 to 80 g. Young potatoes are pleasant and delicate in taste. Yield from 1 ha after 2 months of vegetation ranges from 20 to 25 tons.
  • Resistance to diseases (potato cancer, rhizoctoniosis, mosaic, scab). The defeat of viral diseases is very rare.
  • Great keeping quality. With early ripening, potato tubers are perfectly preserved "from harvest to harvest." It is only important to ensure normal storage conditions. At the same time, the potato does not lose its taste.
  • Resistance to mechanical stress. The variety is very well suited for mechanical collection and transportation. This is especially important if potatoes are grown for commercial purposes.
  • Excellent taste characteristics. Tubers are not watery, equally well suited for mashed potatoes, roasting and frying. This variety is considered to be one of the most delicious.

Lack of variety

First of all, it is insufficient resistance to "potato" diseases.

  • Phytophthora.
  • Alternaria
  • Golden nematode.

Does not like this variety and excessive thickening of the rows. However, with the observance of agricultural technology, you simply will not encounter these problems.

How to grow "Good luck"

The main thing than potato "Luck" differs from other hybrids and varieties - this is its simplicity in terms of soil. It grows not only on black soils, but also on clay soils, loams and sandy soils. But potatoes require some care. For example, beds need to prepare in the fall. Potatoes grow best after gourds, cabbage and cucumbers. If you plant tubers in the same place for a long time, the risk of disease increases. In addition, the variety degenerates.

Tubers grow best in soft soil. Therefore, the area intended for planting varieties, it is necessary to dig in advance to a depth of 2 cm. At the same time, the soil is fertilized with compost or humus, per 1 hectare from 40 to 45 buckets.

For clay soils, it is most convenient to plant tubers in previously formed ridges 15–20 cm high, with a distance between the crests of 70 cm. With such planting, the soil will be better heated. Increase its breathability. For chernozem planting "ridges" is not necessary, because the soil and without it warms up well.

Landing

The optimum mass of planting tubers of the Luck variety is from 50 to 80 g. Large potatoes are typical for the variety, so each of the tubers is cut so that three or four eyes are left on each part.

Important! Cut the tubers varieties "Good luck" just before planting. After each tuber, the knife must be disinfected in a strong solution of potassium permanganate.

For planting you need to take only healthy potatoes. Tubers with visible signs of illness should be discarded, as there is a risk of getting infected plants.

It is recommended to treat the tubers with wood ash. Ash disinfects and plays the role of potash fertilizer for planting material. Then the potatoes need to be laid in one layer in the box for germination. The optimum temperature for germination is 16-18 degrees.

The optimal time of planting varieties "Luck", depending on the region - from the second half of April to mid-May. The distance between the holes within a row of at least 20 cm. The interval between rows is from 30 to 40 cm. To feed the plant, you need to mix in the same proportions compost and wood ash. More feeding is not necessary, it is better to feed the bushes at the first hilling.

After the emergence of shoots, it is desirable to pile up to protect against possible night frosts. Further care of the plants consists in weeding and loosening the soil. This allows to improve the air supply of the root system. It is best to loosen the soil after rain, before it even has time to dry.

Fortune potatoes like nitrogen fertilizers, but they need to be fed with great care so that they do not fall on the leaves and stems of the plant. In terms of irrigation, the variety is undemanding, so abundant irrigation is needed only in case of severe drought and hot weather.

Pest and disease control

The variety has a good resistance to diseases, but it is worth fear of certain diseases.

Phytophthora

Manifested by the appearance of dark gray spots on the leaves and stems. The disease affects the entire plant down to the tubers. They start to rot.

Prevention of phytophtora can serve:.

  • Compliance with crop rotation.
  • Weeding and weed removal.

Before the flowers appear, seedlings are treated with Ridomil (25 g per 10-liter bucket of water). After the appearance of flowers using the means Hom (10-liter bucket 30 g). If infected plants are found, they must be immediately excavated and destroyed.

Stem Nematode

The plant is affected by the nematode, has a high bushiness. The leaves are painted paler than it is typical for the variety. Spots appear on the tubers. Prevention: adding wood ash when planting. If infected plants are found, they must be dug up and destroyed.

Colorado beetle

On plants affected by the beetle, tubers are formed worse than on healthy ones. Planting with a strong smell (calendula, dill) helps planting along with potatoes. It helps the treatment of such means as Karate, Corado, Tanrek, etc. Before using the drugs, you must carefully study the instructions. And, of course, the experienced collection of the beetle helps by hand. A good protection against the beetle - add to the wells when planting wood ash.

Reviews

Most of the feedback on the variety is positive.

Igor, Irkutsk region Two years in a row we plant the variety "Luck." The main characteristic - keeping quality, taste, and yield - on the "excellent." Even on peaty-sandy soils grows remarkably. Of all the varieties that I tried to plant, this is probably the best.

Semyon, Omsk "Good luck" - a white, very beautiful variety. Better for frying, and to bake in the oven. Boiled more "Gypsy" like. Another advantage - the tubers are formed and mature quickly. Earlier much than other varieties.

Julia, Novosibirsk. The variety "Good luck" really turned out to be successful. I bought planting material by chance and did not regret for a minute. What is called a variety, tested over the years. And, probably, will remain relevant for a long time. Early potatoes. In the second half of June, we are already digging for food. The taste characteristic of tubers is quite "on the level"

Leonid, Moscow region Last year, I bought Luck potato for planting on the market. I read a lot about potatoes "Luck": description of the variety, photos, reviews. I decided to try this miracle. Pooded tubers sparingly. How many eyes, so many parts turned out. A neighbor in the country advised to roll the particles in the ashes before planting. Well, she does not advise the bad, a man with great experience. He rolled, sprouted, planted. Shoots turned out friendly. I was not too lazy to gnaw when the shoots appeared. Spud twice. With the Colorado potato beetle had to tinker. Chemistry did not use any, I wanted something "naturel". Applied folk remedy (sunflower oil, diluted in water). After the first treatment, the beetle did not seem to understand that it was not welcome here. After the second spraying, something came to him, and he disappeared without saying goodbye. The harvest turned out good. Tubers are stored too well. I liked the taste.

Ruslan, Izhevsk I had a little unsuccessful work with “Luck”. The variety is recommended as stable, productive and in terms of care is not very difficult. There is no one to blame: he missed the phytophtora, it broke out with might and main. There were a lot of diseased plants, so there are no record harvests. For the future I will keep in mind, there is no reason to refuse the variety.
